Starting the Boreal Dreams Outdoor Adventure Company

Life is often about both new beginnings and returning to one's roots. I was the kid that was always outside. Growing up in a small community near Thunder Bay, Ontario, I had nature at my doorstep and almost endless room to wander and explore. I was also lucky enough to have a family that gave me opportunities to develop my outdoor skills and instilled in me great love and respect for the natural world. "The bush", as we call the forest or the woods in the north, is my dream world - a place that will always be magical and mysterious, but ultimately a place I call home.

Starting Boreal Dreams is, for me, a way of reaffirming my deep emotional and physical connections to nature and the natural world, and fulfils a long-standing wish to share my skills, knowledge, and love of wild places with others. Launching a new enterprise has not been easy. Nothing worth doing is easy. I have learned about the necessity of starting small, being realistic, and giving myself the room and patience to grow as I transition out of my current career and build this business to where I want it to be. The journey is both exciting and admittedly a little intimidating.

Northwestern Ontario has unlimited potential as an all-season destination for active outdoor adventure. Unlike many places in the world, this region remains wild yet accessible - and it is not overrun with visitors. The terrain and climate can be harsh and unforgiving, particularly in winter. But northwestern Ontario is also a place of sublime beauty, enchantment, and serenity that is just waiting to be discovered.
