Starting the Boreal Dreams Outdoor Adventure Company

Life is often about new beginnings and returning to roots. I was the kid who lived outside. Growing up near Thunder Bay, Ontario, nature was my playground. I had endless room to wander and explore and was fortunate to have a family that encouraged and nurtured the development of my outdoor skills. More importantly, my family instilled in me a profound love and respect for the natural world.

"The bush," as we call the forest in the north, is my dream world. After more than 50 years in the outdoors, I still often find being in nature magical and mysterious. Yet, it is in the bush that I ultimately feel most at home. This connection runs deep, and it is a bond that, more than anything else, shapes my identity and sense of place in the world.

Starting Boreal Dreams is a way to reaffirm my ties to nature. It fulfills a long-standing wish. I want to share my skills, knowledge, and love of wild places with others. Launching this enterprise has not been easy. Nothing worth doing is easy.

I have learned the importance of starting small and being realistic in my expectations. I give myself the room and patience to grow. Transitioning from my current career to this new venture is both exciting and intimidating.

Northwestern Ontario is a treasure trove for outdoor adventure. It offers unlimited potential as an all-season destination. Unlike many places, this region remains wild yet accessible. It is not overrun with visitors. The terrain can be harsh and unforgiving. The climate, particularly in winter, tests the spirit. Yet, this land holds sublime beauty. It is a place of enchantment and serenity. It waits to be discovered.

Nature sometimes speaks to us in quiet moments and sometimes it roars. But it always invites us to pause and reflect. The fury of a winter storm, the cry of a wolf, and chatter around a cheery campfire all write and rewrite stories that are as old as time.

As I build the Boreal Dreams Outdoor Adventure Company, I hope I will be able to connect to a global community of enthusiasts who share an appreciation for nature and outdoor adventure. The path may be sometimes challenging, but the rewards are immense. Nature has a way of healing and rejuvenating. It humbles us and reminds us of our place in the world.
