What level of fitness is required?
Boreal Dreams offers active, human powered adventures. This means that participants should have at least a moderate level of fitness to fully enjoy their time with us.

Although all our adventures feature travel at a relaxed pace with frequent breaks, participants should expect to be in motion for as many as 5 or 6 hours a day in mixed, and sometimes challenging, terrain. Those joining us for multi-day hiking adventures should expect, depending on their size and weight, to carry a pack in the range of 10 to 13 kilograms (22 to 29 lbs).

We appreciate assessments of fitness can be relative and subjective. If you have any doubts about your physical readiness, we recommend that you consult a medical professional.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
While we do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions or dietary choices communicated in advance by our guests, we cannot certify or guarantee that our meals are gluten-free or completely free of specific allergens. There are just too many variables that we cannot control in a wilderness situation. If you are person living with celiac disease or a severe allergy please be aware of this limitation when you consider booking an adventure with us. Your safety and well-being is paramount.
What kind of weather might I expect?
The climate of our region is typically continental with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Average mid-summer (July-August) highs usually hover around the low to mid 20s Celsius with a few hotter days. Generally, there is less summer humidity than more southern parts of the Ontario. Mid-winter (January/February) normally range from -10 C in daytime to below -20 C at night. Precipitation is usually in the form of snow from mid/late November to the end of March, with average seasonal snowfall of around 200 cm.
Please be aware that these figures are only a rough guideline as both temperature and precipitation can vary widely both seasonally and from year-to year. We are well equipped to run our adventures in challenging weather, but severe conditions may force us to adapt or change our itinerary to ensure your safety.
Will we encounter wildlife?
Our adventures feature travel in wilderness settings abundant in wildlife such as bear, moose, lynx, wolf, fox, otter, hare, eagle, and marten Other animals such as caribou and wolverine are less common, but present in the territory. While you may not always be lucky enough to see one of these reclusive and beautiful creatures, we will always see evidence of their presence in the form of tracks, scat, and other signs.
